[Oklahoma]
Oklahoma
New
Victoria Theatre
Woking
Tuesday 11 May 2010 to Saturday 15 May 2010
From the producers of such massive touring hits as South Pacific, 42nd
Street, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Seven Brides for Seven
Brothers and many more comes a brand new revival of Rodgers and
Hammerstein’s classic musical Oklahoma!
Oklahoma! was more than a hit - it was the first real phenomenon in
modern Broadway history. Smashing all Broadway box office records when
it opened in 1943, it was the first collaboration between Rodgers and
Hammerstein - the legendary team who went on to create Carousel, South
Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music.
Set on America's Western Frontier, against a background of conflict
between farmers and cattlemen, Oklahoma! perfectly integrates song,
dance and story to tell the tale of farm girl Laurey and the two rivals
for her affections, happy go-lucky cowboy Curly and the sinister farm
hand Jud.
Famously, the show opens with 'Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' and
contains a sumptuous and rousing score full of wonderful songs such as
The Surrey with The Fringe on Top, People Will Say We're in Love, Many
a New Day, I Can't Say No, and the final rousing chorus of Oklahoma
– as the music soars the audience is carried along on the
emotional journey of one of the most famous love stories in musical
history.

[Romeo and Juliet]
Romeo
and Juliet
16
July - 25 July
Rose Theatre - Kingston 2008. 24-26 High Street, Kingston
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Oh Tae-Suk
Presented by Mokhwa Repertory Company
This highly stylised Romeo and Juliet paints the star struck lovers'
story with striking images, glorious martial art sequences, live music
and impressive dance, ritual and gesture.Korean in both temperament and
setting, Oh Tae-Suk's enthralling interpretation, freely adapted from
Shakespeare's most famous play, is a production of arresting beauty.
The performers' physical vocabulary, heightened emotional state and
comic timing create a sensual fusion that lacks nothing from the
absence of the bard's language.
You may never think about Shakespeare in the same way once you see what
this company can do with it.
"The production swirls by in a whirl of vividly coloured costumes and
disciplined traditional dance and movement. The fight scenes become
skilful martial dances, the ball is a perfectly accomplished giddying
ritual"
Financial Times
