UK's Legendary Blues Guitarman - Live Here in Staines

Mr Kamikaze at Hob Staines

Mr Kamikaze
Mar 14 2010
Hobgoblin
Staines

Mr Kamikaze was formed in 2006 by people who have been making music together for years. Influenced by the new wave sound of the late seventies, geek rock and punk they play jerky, poppy rock music. They have played shows with Polysics, The Briefs, We Are The Physics and Tokyo Pinsalocks, and have made an impact on the Brighton rock scene. They have recently recorded and self-released their debut EP imaginatively titled 'Mr Kamikaze'. Mr Kamikaze's incredibly energetic live set is a smashing way to enjoy their carefully crafted pop music.

Band Members    Richard Bushby | Vocals / Guitar

Folk Rock - Live Locally in Isleworth

Beautiful Losers Coach and Horses Isleworth

Beautiful Losers
Mar 13 2010
Coach & Horses
Isleworth

Beautiful Losers are a West London/Surrey based quartet. We like Rock, Folk and Country Rock (and more). We have been called Alt-Country/Americana ish but we’re also West Coast Rock with a nod to classic British Rock. We still play our old songs...

Talking of which...we had an album out in 2004 called High In The Tall Grass. Our oldest fans swear by (and at) it but we don't have swimming pools yet. Had a bit of radio play then we recorded a four track EP in a windmill in darkest Surrey (Silvermere Sound). These songs can be heard in our download section.

In the sixties and seventies it was dignified to be slutty ageing rockers hitting guitars and drums and singing proper songs with great words, melodies and hooks. It was cool to have a great guitar sound and the occasional goosebumping solo, it was perfectly normal to rock out and move people with your music. If you know what we mean by that then check us out, this is why we do what we do.

Crosby Stills Nash & Young, The Byrds, The Beatles, Steve Miller Band, The Band, Black Crowes, The Small Faces, The Faces, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Radiohead, Counting Crows, Nick Drake, Ryan Adams, Lucky Jim, Paul Weller, Gram Parsons, Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, The Summer Wardrobe, My Morning Jacket, Stevie Wonder, Traffic, Angelfield, AC/DC, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Lucinda Williams, Drive By Truckers, Magic Ship, Lambchop, The Decemberists, Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Tim Hardin, The Shins, Wilco, Viarosa, Saint Jude, REM, Peter Bruntnel

All Girl Punk Rock Outfit  - Live in Staines

Hearts under Fire at The Hob, Staines

Hearts Under Fire
Feb 25 2010
Hobgoblin
Staines

"We make honest music from our hearts."

Hearts Under Fire are a four-piece band from Surrey, UK, consisting of Lexi Clark (drums), Nicky Day (rhythm guitar), Steph Forrow (lead guitar) & Mary O’Regan (bass & vocals).Their ballsy, melodic, impassioned songs together with fast tempos, driving guitars and gang vocals have been compared to Rise Against, Alkaline Trio and AFI, but despite the similarities, these girls have certainly created a sound of their own. The band already have six UK tours under their belts, played Guilfest Rock Sound Stage, Camden Underworld, Facedown and have shared a stage with the likes of 65daysofstatic, Gay For Johnny Depp, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, The Maple State and You Me At Six (to name a few) and this is only the beginning.

UK's Legendary Blues Guitarman - Live Here in Staines

Papa George at Riverside Club Staines

Papa George with Steve Simpson
Feb 25 2010
Riverside Club
Staines

Papa George is generally regarded as one of the major electric blues musicians playing on the British blues scene today.

Papa George’s style is characterized by the use of amplified resonator guitars or Fender Strat, picked or bottled, as each note is gently squeezed from soulful strings. His deep, great smoky voice is a mixture of honeyed molasses and Tennessee sourmash whiskey- sometimes dark and bitter as the cocoa bean, but most of the time, as sweet and as merry as a Piña Colada.

Papa George employs a more up-tempo style than many of his blues playing buddies (reminding me of John Lee Hooker) with a driving rhythm and a tendency to walk the bass pattern with his thumb- this especially nimble method helping to illuminate and add texture to the rhythm of the faster numbers.

Good Ole 50's Rock'n'Roll -  Live locally in Shepperton

Chicken Thieves

Alleycats
Feb 27 2010
Bagster House Club
Shepperton

Good Ole 50's Rock'n'Roll At It's Very Best

The London based Alleycats took to the road in 1998, but most of the six guys in the current line-up have been around the fifties rock'n'roll scene a lot longer than that. They regularly gig across the UK and occasionally in Europe. Anywhere a good rock'n'roll party is going on!

With guitars, piano, tenor sax, bass, drums and lots of vocals, they play for entertainment and dancing. If you want to jive, bop, stroll or smooch, these are the guys for you.

The Alleycats cover the whole range of 50s rock 'n' roll, from rockabilly and swing to doo-wop. Their 2003 CD "Alley Palais", contained many of their own songs, in authentic fifties style, but the live set contains mainly a great cross section of the classic rock'n'roll songs plus a few less obvious surprises!

Loud Indie Power-Pop - Live Staines

Dr Pop at The Hobgoblin Staines

Dr Pop
Feb 21 2010
Hobgoblin
Staines

Formed out of the ashes of several other bands on the GU1 scene and with the single-minded desire of making proper tunes that people will love, Alex, Will and Jack have merged to produce something of joyful euphoria. They take their influences from any band that write great songs and have loud guitars. From the likes of Pixies, Weezer, Sonic Youth and The Clash.

They have been gigging consistently around London, Guildford and Brighton since their formation in the summer of 2008 including two tremendously well received performances at Guilfest. They released the iTunes only E.P. “Dirty New Hobbies” in November 2009, and have also been receiving their first radio play on BBC Sussex, and have done live session's for Eagle Radio and GU2 Radio.

Whether you want to shout along or just tap your foot, their loud-indie-punky-powerpop style has something for everyone. You want to dance. You want to sing. You want to party. You want to swoon. You want to make little paper models of them to put on your mantelpiece. That’s fine – they just want to make you listen.

Alex - Guitar/Vocals
Jack - Drums/Vocals

Melodic Rock -  Live locally in Isleworth

Chicken Thieves

The Chicken Thieves
Feb 20 2010
Coach & Horses
Isleworth

Free Entry !

Formed in 2008 and born out of a fear of all things non musical "The Chicken Thieves" are a London/Surrey based quartet.

Initially a collaboration between musicians "Stuart Saunders" and "Mike (El Presidente) Weatherley" The Chicken Thieves was set to run along-side existing projects but soon became the focus for their musical bent.

Without a full line up, Saunders and Weatherley put their heads together to find a competent and talented bass player and the first and obvious choice was long time friend "Rich (Killer) Eaton".

Eaton had not performed live for a number of years since throwing down the groove for legendary Acid Jazz band "Northern Lights" and needed little influence to join Saunders and Weatherley.

The line up was completed with the inclusion of vocalist Stefan Parrott, influenced by artists such as 'The Counting Crows', 'REM', 'Gene' and many other alternative rock bands, Parrott's vocals bring a melodic and soulful voice to the mix.

Recently signed up with TCT Records and AWAL... The Chicken Thieves Latest single "Stolen Wings" is available now on iTunes.

Live A  listed Indie Rock Band - Live Staines

Sion at The Hobgoblin Staines

Sion
Feb 11 2010
Hobgoblin
Staines

Sion are an unsigned five piece rock band from south England, the place of all good farmers. It would suffice to say the band know their crops. They have toured across Europe and the States & recently experienced near death, due to the tour bus hanging over a cliff edge in Spain. That was not nearly as fun as when they drove in to a nudist camp. (Shortly after they decided it would be best if they changed driver for a while).

They have played in over 14 countries, won an unsigned competition to play at O2 Wireless Festival then asked back to play the next year. Sion have played with
such bands as Oceansize, People in Planes, Foals, JR Ewing and QOTSA. Dan the bass player has recently been rescuing golden retrievers from local ponds and rivers in his home town of Marlborough. Together with being A-listed on local radio stations which is unheard of for an unsigned band, Sion have received radio play on Radio 1, XFM, BBC 6 Music and Kerrang! Radio among others. The band's second single came out early summer this year and has enjoyed much attention including the video getting played twice daily on NME TV. The third single Shoulder to Shoulder is out March 2010.

Staines Rocks- copyright Adpontes-staines.com

SWEET MELINDA

Based around fairly straightforward guitar playing, often influenced by the style of 1970s British and American rock, Sweet Melinda’s songs are often “life-affirming” with a sense of humour. Folksy chords and eastern-flavoured guitar riffs invoke a memory of Kinks circa 1965. The band cites Lee Perry as a major influence: Perry was one of the producers whose mixing board experiments lead to the ‘dub’ sound. The ‘dub’ infusion is clear in Sweet Melinda’s percussive style that is reminiscent of Traffic with bold low-pitched bass guitar drawing attention to the shape and depth of the space between sounds as well as to the sounds themselves.

The band say they got their name from a Bob Dylan song* [Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues- 1965] that goes:

sweet melinda- Goddess of Gloom
and, like Dylan, they aspire to write true stories partly autobiographical and partly observational.

Kris Hutton (Guitar/ Vocals) - Adam Jervis (Guitar/ Vocals) - Matt Altria (Bass Guitar) - Brad Glennon ( Drums) are local lads but have already gathered a reasonable following around Greater London and have enjoyed playing at important venues such as- The Peel (Kingston), The Half-Moon (Putney) and The Bull and Gate (Kentish Town) as well as Guilfest.

Their sounds are less jangly than most indie pop bands- more introverted and more moody (as you would expect from Dylan adherents) but they still demonstrate a significant punk rock influence ( think ‘The Ramones’) with catchy pop melodies in their songs and a swagger almost Buzzcocks in style and attitude.

Their recent gig at The Hob (Staines) was polished, professional and (almost) intellectual. The tiny crowd (well, it was a Sunday night and the World Cup rugby was on) included young and old, men and women. The band shows lots of class and a generous and heartfelt desire to ‘tell it like it is’.

They may even leave you howling at the moon...

WHO ARE SUZERAIN?

Suzerain

Suzerain are:

    Tom Pether Vox
    Richard Summers Guitar
    Mike Smith Bass
    Matt Constantine Keys/Cello
    Ben Howe Drums/percussion

Formed in Early 05 through a shared love of pop, rock, electro and sheer melody that brought them notoriety with all who saw their earliest of gigs.

The Suzerain Sound is a result of many different influences (My Chemical Romance, Nine Inch Nails, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, The Cure,) drawing on the music, art, ideas and principle of all that has come before and setting new standards for the future. The shimmer of glam, the pulse of dance, the longing and ache of the great composers, the urgency and relentlessness of punk and the pristine satisfaction of finely crafted pop… no musical or artistic rock is left unturned.

Suzerain set their standards very high. They demand that their music is at once instantly infectious and accessible, but that also demands closer inspection, and ultimately your complete devotion.

Suzerain- indy Award Winners

As a live band Suzerain are hard to beat. Having blasted through the majority of the London circuit Suzerain have earned themselves a fearsome live reputation, and are a band to be noted. Their incendiary performances at London’s top venues and a heart stopping set at the O2 Wireless festival in 06 are a testament to these high standards and lofty ambitions.

More than anything Suzerain give their all to everything they do. The gigs incite their fans to dance and chant their name long after they have left the stage, the music leaves no-one in any doubt they about their skill, passion and ability to write amazing tunes. Everybody’s foot taps and all heads turn.
