About Ad Pontes...
STAINES was originally
known as AD PONTES in year 14AD. Ad Pontes (Latin for
at the Bridge) was of
strategic
importance as it was located at the only crossing point of the River
Thames upstream from London on the road to Silchester. The
bridge
was probably made of stone so the word ‘Stones’ may
come
have been corrupted, over time, into the name Staines. There
is
also some suggestion that the prehistoric site of the “Nine
Stones” was located nearby (some say near Hythe by the M25)
and
the Saxon for “stones” is
“Stanes”.
The Staines Arts and
Lifestyle
Magazine is called AD PONTES

Tom Jones, with whom he spent the next five years touring, and it was

with Derek Lawrence, a record producer whose credits include Deep
Purple and Wishbone Ash, to form a record label named Retreat Records.
They produced various artists on this label over a period of about two
years. Among these artists were Labi Siffre, Chas & Dave and
McGuinness Flint. Sullivan himself fronted a band called Tiger, who put
out three albums on this label. Also, Lawrence and Sullivan went to the
